MH17 Memorial Service

Canberra’s Ukrainian community hosted a memorial service for the victims of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 on Saturday afternoon. It was attended by the staff of many embassies and consulates including the USA, Netherlands, Malaysia, Ukraine, Romania, New Zealand, Canada and Georgia, and by Federal and State politicians and the Australian Capital Territory’s Chief Minister. The Prime Minister, Tony Abbott was a no-show, as was anyone to represent him. No doubt he wants to distance himself from everything so he can continue playing boyfriends with Adolf Putin.

Canberra flag at half-mast

Everything flew at half-mast today, out of respect for the people shot down by Russia two days ago. A Canberra woman was amongst those killed.

We took flowers to the embassies today, and left something at the Russian embassy. Not that they’re going to pay attention when there’s so much propaganda to believe instead.

So, world, are you worried about Russia yet?

Ukraine government, Malaysia Airlines confirm passenger plane crash, at least 295 presumed dead.

So, world, are you worried about Russia yet.

The lack of support for Ukraine has been disgusting. Lots of big words and empty threats from weakling presidents and prime ministers. Now that Russians, with Russian weaponry, have shot down a Malaysia Airlines plane with people from the world over on board, are you going to pay attention?

How much worse is this going to get? Ukrainians can’t win this war on their own.

Russian-backed separatist leader Igor Girkin (who also goes by the name of Strelkov) claimed credit. “The plane has just been taken down somewhere around Torez (Donetsk Oblast). It lays there behind the Progress mine. We did warn you – do not fly in ‘our sky.’ And here is the video proving another ‘bird’ falling down. The bird went down behind the slagheap, not in the residential district. So no peaceful people were injured. There is also information about another plane shot.

Strelkov, however, apparently mistook the plane for the Ukrainian air force’s. He is a Moscow native who Ukraine’s State Security Service says is a high-ranking officer in Russia’s military intelligence department. “

Here he is claiming responsibility. Of course, the posts were gone when he found out he hadn’t killed Ukrainians.

Canberra’s National Carillon

The Carillon is on Lake Burley Griffin. It was a gift to Canberra from the British government, and was opened by the Queen in 1970.
