It’s back up in the thirties in Canberra today, with sunny skies and autumn leaves.
We’re heading to the coast for the long weekend (where it’s going to be cooler). There’s no internet at our accommodation – Australia is just about the world’s most backwards country when it comes to internet access!
However, I hope to have some pictures when I get back. We’ll be at Broulee, where I’ve spent a bit of time over the years. it’s a huge beach and with really only a few locals around – nothing like the more built-up areas to the north.
Cloudy Sunday evening in Canberra.
It was a moody day at the lake in Canberra yesterday, but we didn’t get any rain.
They’re not much yet, but here they are!
The mother possum taking a look at me at dinnertime yesterday. I’m disappointed, because moments earlier the baby had popped out of the hole for a look around – I missed getting a picture of it!
This evening – after dark – she came for a walk around my feet when I was sitting on the steps, and I just saw her about two metres up a tree at our back deck. She’s a very busy creature!
We’ve had a female brushtail possum living in the centuries-old gum tree next to my bedroom window for a few years now. She is super-active at night, and crashes around in the undergrowth about a metre from my bed some time between five and six most mornings.
Now she has a baby, and she lumbers around the garden paths with it on her back at night, not even caring if we’re right next to her. She’s also pretty good at making those horrible, loud Exorcist noises and keeping people awake all night!
Of course, I take pity on her and leave out water and fruit, even though she sleeps all day but refuses to extend the same courtesy to us!
I couldn’t get a proper picture from where I am at the moment, but we are having a beautiful evening in Canberra, and similar – but hotter – weather is forecast for tomorrow.
At the moment, all the sulphur-crested cockatoos are screeching as they fly to… wherever they go for the night, and the currawongs are doing their thing. The picture looks peaceful, but it’s very noisy here!
If it’s a bit blurry it’s because I took this from the back seat of a car this afternoon (zooming past other people’s heads and arms etc.)! It’s 30+ something degrees in Canberra today, and will be again tomorrow, and tonight we have Skyfire (fireworks) on the lake.
It was a pretty great St Patrick’s Day. I had no idea so many people would come into the city all dressed up – I deliberately didn’t wear green because I thought that was silly, but I was about the only one in a different colour! We had Irish bands, Irish dancers etc. I haven’t *done* St Patrick’s Day for years. How lucky it was on a Saturday this year!
Images from the Kingston Foreshore on Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra on Saturday afternoon.
I needed to be a bit higher up to actually capture it properly, but here was tonight’s sunset in Canberra.
