Steve – the best bird!

Here is our tiny butcherbird who turned up here as a little baby a couple of years ago. Steve/Stevie goes away for a few months a year, and then comes back and practically lives at our back door.

So very, very, VERY friendly and cute!

Canberra Heatwave

Here’s our resident red wattlebird trying to cope with the heat on Saturday afternoon. For reference, the second picture is what it’s supposed to look like – and does when it’s not forty degrees all week!

Poor Bird!

This little half-grown rosella just crashed into our window in Canberra this afternoon. With the temperature hitting 40 degrees in the past hour, the birds are a little distressed. I’ve been putting water our everywhere!

Silly Bird

It’s a beautiful, warm spring day here in Canberra, and I’m trying to work outside. However, every time I take one step away from my chair, this currawong steals it!

Evening Cockatoo

Its friend flew off, and I asked this one to turn around and look at me before it left, too.

It did.

Preening Session

We have two galahs that pretty much permanently live in the big eucalyptus tree in the front garden.

This one is very busy preening and enjoying the sunshine.

One of our resident adolescent magpies – still with heaps of grey baby feathers – hanging out this afternoon.

Summer Evening in Canberra

Forgive the quality of the photograph. I was watering the garden at sunset, and this silly cockatoo watched me the whole time. I took the picture with a tablet (no camera or anything else nearby), one-handed, so it’s not very good. I think, though, you can tell it’s summer by the light – it’s so orange!

Crimson Rosella

Just another shot of one of the birds hanging out here and eating berries at the moment.
