Sydney on Saturday

We went to Sydney to see The Australian Ballet on Saturday night. Here is the view out the window from our hotel in the city centre.

And this is looking the other way. It’s really sad that those in power in Sydney destroyed the city a few decades ago. No effort was made to preserve any of the historic buildings, so instead of rows of Victorian-era house like you might find in other cities, in Sydney you have one.

Life in Russia

I’ve been to Russia. More than once, and not just to the couple of palaces and prettied up “peasant villages” the organised tours and cruises take you to. I have family who live there (a few who were born there), and I have seen the way Putin propaganda truly makes them believe their lives are better than anywhere else.

The one that always stuns me is their insistence they live in the world’s greatest democracy and freest country. On one hand, it’s sad. On the other, the way propaganda has manipulated them into supporting the invasion of surrounding countries is infuriating.
